BEER LEAGUE BULLIES vs. THE BIG DEBORAHS

Thursday, May 21, 2026 | AFC Rink 2 | Final: 7-2

RUST NEVER SLEEPS, BUT WE DID

Three weeks off. Holiday break, summer break, whatever you want to call it when the Bullies shut it down after hoisting the fall championship. The legs were slow Thursday. The timing was off. The Big Deborahs came in looking for an upset and found themselves down 4-0 after one period anyway.

That's the difference between a stacked roster with a championship pedigree and a team looking for answers. The Bullies shook off the cobwebs, dominated the first two periods, and cruised through the third. 7-2. Summer season is open. We're still here.

PERIOD BY PERIOD

1st Period — 4-0 BLB

Shawn Volchok opened it at 3:05 with help from Dallas Erickson. Two minutes later, James Schopen made it 2-0 with assists from Anthony Marimberga and Matthew Sweeney. Andreas Adolfsson went unassisted at 7:48 to make it 3-0. Kellen Hart closed out the period at 15:38 with Steven Hackett and Adolfsson setting it up.

Four goals. One period. The Big Deborahs were already looking for the exit.

2nd Period — 7-1 BLB

Adolfsson struck again at 4:29, this time with help from Hackett and Hart. John Fiore got one at 11:00 — Dallas Erickson and Volchok with the setup. Schopen added his second at 14:38 with Adolfsson and Hart combining on the assist. Seven goals in two periods.

The Big Deborahs got one back at 16:44 when Travis Wyman found the back of the net. Too little, too late. BLB led 7-1 after 40 minutes.

3rd Period — 7-2 BLB

The third was maintenance hockey. The Bullies sat back, didn't push, let the Big Deborahs have the puck and the stats. Andrew Dick scored at 17:45 to make the final 7-2. That was the game.

SPOTLIGHT

Andreas Adolfsson — Two goals, two assists, four points. The Swede didn't need the rust to shake off. Adolfsson came back ready and played like he never left.

Kellen Hart — One goal, two assists, three points. Hart ran the offense like he owns it. Which, at this point, he basically does.

James Schopen — Two goals. Clean finishes. Schopen was the kind of early-season statement you want: simple, effective, no drama.

Shawn Volchok — One goal, one assist. The captain led by example, which is the easiest way to lead when the team is already this talented.

Steven Hackett — Zero goals, two assists. Hackett picked up a penalty late but spent most of the night setting up his teammates. That's the kind of contribution that doesn't always show on the scoreboard.

Michael Hernandez — 17 saves on 19 shots for a .895. New goalie in the crease and he looked solid in the summer opener. The Big Deborahs generated 36 shots, but Hernandez made the ones that mattered.

Goalie: Michael Hernandez — 19 SOG, 2 GA, 17 SV (.895)

Shots on Goal: BLB 36, Big Deborahs 19

Penalties: BLB 1 infraction / 2 min | Big Deborahs 0 infractions

LOOKING AHEAD

Summer season is rolling. The rust is shaking off. The Bullies came out of a three-week break and immediately reminded everyone why they're wearing the fall championship ring — they score early, they score often, and they don't let up until the game is decided.

The Big Deborahs will have better nights. The Bullies will have sharper ones. For now, this is the statement: still here, still hungry, still rolling.

Stay sharp. Stay hungry. Summer's just getting started.
